Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — The Republic of Burundi reaffirmed its firm commitment to regional peace and African integration during a high-level meeting between its Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, H.E. Albert Shingiro, and the new Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
Held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, this strategic exchange offered both leaders an opportunity to share insights on Africa’s evolving geopolitical landscape and the role of strong partnerships in building a secure, united, and prosperous continent.
On behalf of the President of the Republic of Burundi, H.E. Evariste Ndayishimiye, Minister Shingiro conveyed warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on his recent assumption of office. He reiterated Burundi’s continued support for the African Union’s mission under the Chairperson’s leadership.
Minister Shingiro also emphasized Burundi’s alignment with AU priorities and its dedication to advancing the spirit of Pan-Africanism through practical cooperation and regional solidarity. He praised the Commission’s leadership and reiterated Burundi’s readiness to contribute actively to African-led peace and development initiatives.
Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, for his part, expressed appreciation for Burundi’s strong engagement within the Union and acknowledged the country’s role in fostering regional dialogue, conflict resolution, and development. He welcomed the continued partnership and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working closely with all Member States in pursuit of Africa’s shared goals.
The meeting concluded on a note of optimism and mutual resolve to accelerate Africa’s integration agenda under the AU’s Agenda 2063, with a focus on governance, security, and inclusive growth.
This encounter marked a new chapter in AU–Burundi relations, grounded in shared values, strategic vision, and the enduring bonds of African solidarity.
