The Embassy of the Republic of Burundi in Addis Ababa was represented by Mr. Philbert Murekambanze, First Counsellor, at the 20th Regional Session of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for Africa, held at the Headquarters of the African Union.
The conference, which brought together labour ministers, representatives of workers’ and employers’ organizations, and diplomatic missions from across the continent, focused on advancing social justice and decent work in Africa under the global agenda of the ILO. It provided a vital platform for Member States to exchange views on employment, labour rights, youth employment, and inclusive economic transformation.
Representing Burundi, Mr. Murekambanze actively took part in the deliberations, reaffirming the country’s strong support for ILO’s mission and commitment to fostering decent work opportunities in line with national development strategies and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The 20th Session also reviewed implementation of previous regional commitments and adopted forward-looking strategies to support member countries in building resilient labour markets, particularly in the post-COVID recovery context.
Burundi’s participation reflects its dedication to promoting fair labour standards, strengthening social protection systems, and enhancing opportunities for all workers, especially women and youth, as essential pillars of national development.
