Eritrea Celebrates 34th Independence Anniversary at African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa

The Embassy of the State of Eritrea in Addis Ababa commemorated the 34th anniversary of Eritrean independence with a diplomatic reception held at the African Union Headquarters. The event brought together diplomats, dignitaries, and representatives from various African nations, including H.E. Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe of Burundi, who honoured the invitation and attended the celebration.

In his address, Mr. Biniam Berhe, Chargé d’Affaires en pied of the Eritrean Embassy and Eritrea’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, reflected on the significance of the day. He emphasized the resilience and unity of the Eritrean people, stating that their collective efforts have been instrumental in achieving and maintaining the nation’s sovereignty and development.

Mr. Berhe highlighted Eritrea’s commitment to regional cooperation and integration, noting that the country’s progress is intertwined with the stability and prosperity of the Horn of Africa. He expressed gratitude for the support and solidarity of neighbouring countries and reiterated Eritrea’s dedication to fostering peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships within the region.

The reception featured cultural performances showcasing Eritrea’s rich heritage, symbolizing the nation’s journey over the past three decades. Attendees engaged in discussions on strengthening diplomatic ties and exploring avenues for collaboration in areas such as trade, education, and infrastructure development.

Ambassador Nyamitwe conveyed his appreciation for the invitation and extended congratulations on behalf of the Burundian government and people. He acknowledged the historical bonds between Burundi and Eritrea and expressed optimism about deepening bilateral relations through continued dialogue and cooperation.

The event underscored Eritrea’s ongoing efforts to engage with the international community and its aspiration to contribute positively to continental initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development and unity across Africa.
