Burundi Participates in AU-EU Senior Officials Meeting in Brussels, Reinforcing Commitment to Africa-Europe Partnership

On May 20, 2025, His Excellency Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Burundi to the African Union, participated in the AU-EU Senior Officials Meeting in Brussels. This preparatory session set the stage for the 3rd AU-EU Ministerial Meeting held the following day, focusing on reviewing key documents, including the draft Joint Communiqué and the Follow-Up Report.

The Senior Officials Meeting provided a platform for African and European representatives to assess progress on the Joint Vision for 2030, adopted during the 6th EU-AU Summit in 2022. Discussions centered on aligning strategic priorities across four key pillars: prosperity and sustainability, peace and security, migration and mobility, and multilateralism. Ambassador Nyamitwe’s participation underscored Burundi’s dedication to fostering a robust and mutually beneficial partnership between Africa and Europe.

The outcomes of the Senior Officials Meeting were instrumental in shaping the agenda of the 3rd AU-EU Ministerial Meeting, which brought together foreign ministers from both continents to reaffirm their commitment to shared values and collaborative efforts. The ministers emphasized the importance of translating commitments into concrete actions, particularly in areas such as economic integration, climate change mitigation, and youth empowerment.
